WHOIS Lookup
See who a domain is registered with, when it was registered and expires, and whether it is locked against theft, straight from the registry.
What this tool checks
- Registrar, registration date and domain age
- Expiry date, with a warning in the last 30 days
- Transfer lock, the main protection against domain theft
- Every status code, explained in plain English
- Nameservers and DNSSEC as recorded at the registry
How to read the results
- Pass
- The check succeeded based on the observed responses.
- Warning
- Works now, but is risky, unusual or worth reviewing.
- Fail
- A problem was observed directly in the responses.
- Inconclusive
- Not enough evidence — for example a server did not respond.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I check when a domain expires?
- Enter the domain above. The lookup reads the expiry date straight from the registry and warns when fewer than 30 days remain.
- Can I find out who owns a domain?
- Usually not. Since GDPR, most registries and registrars hide the owner's name and contact details. The lookup shows the registrar, which can forward messages to the owner.
- What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?
- RDAP is the modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns the same registration data in a structured, standard format, and ICANN made it the official source for generic domains in January 2025.
- What does clientTransferProhibited mean?
- It is the registrar's transfer lock: the domain cannot be moved to another registrar until the lock is removed. It is normal and recommended.
